Dairy Cow Trophies are Moooving Up

Having lived in the South for most of my life, I am well aware of what it means to win dairy cow trophies. There are so many aspects to it on so many levels.  Dairy cow trophies are not only a matter of pride, but there are great financial gains as well.

To win a dairy cow trophy, one competes first on the local level, like at a county fair, then once they receive one or more dairy cow trophies, they move up to the state level and compete in different divisions.  Diary show cow trophies are the most prized because that’s where the financial gain comes into play.  To win one of the many dairy cow trophies the cow must pass many inspections by prudent judges.  Not just any cow will win a dairy cow trophy; only the best of the best.  Dairy cow trophies are a symbol of pride for the owner; it is big money when it comes to the reproductive processes that cow has.  So in other words, if his cow wins a dairy cow trophy, people are going to want to buy a calf from him.

From the state level of competition, it moves into the national level, where the judging becomes stricter and the dairy cow trophies are fewer.  This is where dairy show cow trophies mean the most because people from all over the country are there to witness the judging.  For a cow to win a dairy cow trophy on the state level, the cow must be in immaculate condition.  Only the very best of the best take home dairy cow trophies on the national level.
There is a difference between just a dairy cow and a dairy show cow.  Dairy cows are raised and produce milk and offspring.  Dairy show cows are raised with the intention of showing them at competitions, thus to bring home dairy show cow trophies; however they still may produce calves and produce milk.  Dairy cow trophies are the pride of the farmer; he will often display them in his barn or in his home.  I’ve known many farmers who have spent a great deal of time to win a dairy cow trophy and I’ve seen how much pride it brings them.  Dairy cow trophies are, to the farmer, like a super bowl ring is to a football player. 

The county schools where I live have an agriculture class they offer that teaches these budding farmers the best way to bring home dairy cow trophies.  They teach them how the cow should look and what it should eat.  They raise a cow and compete it for either division for dairy cow trophies or dairy show cow trophies. 

Dairy cow trophies are a symbol of pride, yes, but to bring home the ultimate dairy cow trophy means financial gain and in this time that farmers struggle, it’s nice to see that there are so many benefits to dairy cow trophies.
